Just listening to the Beth Orton album, Trailer Park. I've never really heard any of her stuff before. Oh my god, what an awful singer. She constantly sings sharp. It's like a knife in the side of my head.

The BBC's longest-serving DJ, John Peel, died yesterday. A tragedy for music. Many hugely successful careers were set on their way because of this man. His love of music was apparent in everything he did, his tastes were ridiculously diverse. I think everybody took it for granted that he would always be around to introduce music to the populace that ordinarily probably wouldn't get an airing, but now he's not here and the void left behind seems enormous.

A great man. He will be sadly missed.

Just need to vent. Hershey's chocolate is absolutely disgusting. There is a definite taste of vomit to it. Horrific.

Got my Emulator X Studio wired up. It will completely change the way I write music. It's really quite brilliant.

Emu EmulatorX studio. Pro-Tools DACs, on-board DSP, nice.

I am now under the employ of CreativeLabs. Never thought that would ever happen. Going to Russia in two weeks. I've always wanted to go there, but the bomb in the Moscow Metro that killed 39 people is a bit concerning.

A Devil's Coach Horse (Staphylinus olens) was just traversing the carpet in my Mum's house. It's a fierce-looking thing. I tried to get it onto a magazine so that I could take it outside. It reared its tail up and stuck its massive mandibles out (apparently it lets out a bad smell as well). It was lucky for me that it couldn't get across the carpet properly because when I managed to get it onto a coaster, it moved at light-speed, but I managed to get a glass on top of it. It's a very impressive beast, it eats slugs and stuff. Apparently it really hurts if it manages to bite you. Isn't nature cool?
